Day 1: Nairobi -
Arusha
Leave Nairobifor Arusha by
shuttle bus arriving in time for lunch.
Afternoon is spent at leisure and shopping for
the provisions needed for the Mountain.
Dinner and overnight at an Arusha hotel.
Day 2: Arusha - Lava Caves
After breakfast, transfer to Marangu gate and
then to Umbwe Village to start the climb. Climb
for four hours through the rainforest to camp at
the caves 2,800m above the sea level.
Day 3: Lava Caves - Barranco Hut
After breakfast, continue ascent along a sharp
ridge, giving a distinct high mountain feeling,
then onto the Moorland Camp and arrive my mid
afternoon. Stay at Barranco hut 3,900m.
Day 4: Barranco Hut - Arrow Glacier
A four-hour walk past enormous breach walls to
camp at the foot of the Arrow Glacier. A
leisurely afternoon and evening, acclimatizing
at around 4900m and watching the sunset behind
Mount Meru.
Day 5: Arrow Glacier - Kilimanjaro Crater Rim
Climbing the same steep walls and scrambling up
the screen and across the frozen lava on the
tottering wall. We camp on the stunning crater
rim of Kilimanjaro.
Day 6: Kilimanjaro Crater Rim - Horombo Hut
You trek up the highest point in Africa, Uhuru
Peak (5,896m). Descend via Gilmans point and
onto Kibo hut for dinner and overnight (3,761
m).
Day 7: Horombo Hut - Arusha
After breakfast, descent to the Marangu Park
Gate via Mandara. You will be transferred to
Arusha for dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Arusha - Nairobi
After breakfast, leave for Nairobi by morning or
afternoon shuttle, where the tour ends.
Day 1: Nairobi -
Arusha
After breakfast, we will pick you up from your
Nairobi hotel and thereafter depart for Arusha
via Namanga border town for immigration
formalities. Rest of the afternoon at leisure.
Overnight at an Arusha hotel.
Day 2: Arusha - Machame
An early start for Kilimanjaro National Park.
Once we reach the park gate we will proceed
directly to Machame hut campsite in an average
hiking time of 6 hours for meals and overnight
in tents. The altitude here is 3,100m.
Day 3: Machame - Shira
After breakfast, hike to Shira hut. The trek
takes 4 hours approximately via the rain forest
past the valley and a steep rocky ridge ending
westward at a river gorge. You will have a rest,
dinner and overnight at Shira hut campsite,
3,658m above sea level.
Day 4: Shira - Barranco
From Shira, hike to Barranco hut, in an average
hiking time of 6 hours. We by-pass the lava
tower and past the second junction which brings
us to the arrow glacier, altitude 4,876m. We
descend to Barranco hut campsite for our third
overnight on Kilimanjaro, 3,860 m above sea
level.
Day 5: Barranco - Barafu
After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue
to the Karanga valley and the junction, which
connects with the Mweka trail. We hike to Barafu
hut where we set up camp. We will have walked
for about 8 hours.
Dinner and overnight at the hut campsite,
altitude 4,600m with the possibility of sighting
both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
Day 6: Barafu - Mweka via SteNa Point and Uhuru
Peak
We rise early and head for Stella Point altitude
5,745m on our way to the summit Uhuru Peak that
is 5,896m above sea level. This part of the hike
takes about 6 hours. From the summit we descend
to the Mweka hut campsite, 3,100m above sea
level. This part of the descent takes about 5
hours.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Mweka - Arusha
After breakfast, we descend to the Mweka Park
Gate in an average hiking time of 4 hours and
then drive back to Arusha for overnight.
Day 8: Arusha - Nairobi After breakfast,
depart for Nairobi on the morning or afternoon
shuttle arriving at 01.00 pm or 06.30 pm.
Technical route for experience climbers.
DAY 1: Drive along Boma Ngombe to Sanya Juu and
up to Londorosi gate {Alt. 2200m} registration,
drive to the
road near Lemosho glades and start
the trek through the rain forest, for dinner and
overnight at Forest Camp{Alt.2440m}
DAY 2: Full day trekking through Shira Caldera
and desert plateau, overnight at Shira I camp
{Alt. 3700m}.
DAY 3:
Trekking across Shira plateau, for dinner
and overnight at GM II camp {Alt.3700m}
DAY 4: Trekking 6-7hrs through Baranco valley
overnight at Baranco camp {Alt. 3940m} {But this
day can also be used for altitude
acclimatization}.
DAY 5
:Climb up to Barranco wall across valleys
for dinner and overnight at Karanga Camp {Alt.
4270m}
DAY 6:
Day is spent for acclimatization, dinner
and overnight at Karanga camp {Alt. 4270m}
DAY 7: Trek to the summit Uhur Peak {Alt. 5895m}
then return 12-15hrs for dinner and overnight at
GM III camp {Alt.1100m}
DAY 8:
Walk down across the Alpine moorland to Mweka gate say goodbye to your guide/porters,
certificates award and onward transfers.

-MARANGU TRAIL.
MARANGU ROUTE - 5 DAYS 4 NIGHTS For normal
physically fit person, is generally the most
popular and common easier route. It is the only
one with permanent Huts {as on other routes its
mainly camping in Mountain tents}.
Marangu Gate {Alt. 1850m} - Mandara Hut {Alt.
2700m}
DAY 1: Arrive at Marangu Gate by private
transfer from Arusha, introduction to your
Guide/Porters. Thereafter Registration before
starting your climbing {hiking/trekking} for
approximately 3 to 4 hrs through the rain
forest. Picnic lunch along the route to Mandara.
On arrival leisure with hot refreshments etc.
Late afternoon walk to the Maundi Crater for
acclimatization - thereafter walking back for
dinner and overnight at the Mandara Hut.
Mandara Hut {2700m} - Horombo Hut {Alt. 3700m}
DAY 2:After breakfast, start climbing through
the Giant Savannah semi rainforest and Lobbelia's for approximately 4 to 5 hours with
picnic lunch along the route to Horombo arriving
late afternoon served with refreshments later
evening walk along the Mawenzi Route to as far
as you can manage for acclimatization purpose.
Thereafter descend back to the Horombo Hut for
dinner and overnight.
Horombo Hut {3700m} - Kibo Hut {4700m}
DAY 3:After breakfast, start climb with picnic
lunch along the route through the semidesert
areas, small glaciers, passing sunny and windy
conditions for approximately 6 to 7hrs before
arriving, almost exhausted at the Kibo Hut for
dinner and overnight - up to approximately
12.00midnight. Thereafter you are woken up ready
for your final preparation to ascend to the
summit.
Kibo Hut {4700m} - Gilmans Point { 5600m} or to
Uhuru Peak {5895m}.
DAY 4:Your final ascent start as early as
01.00hrs {1.00am} going Zig-Zag through the
thick glaciers and sandy areas up to Gilman's
Point for 6 to 7 hrs. If you wish to continue to
the Uhuru Peak {the highest Peak in Africa} is
another approx. 2 hrs away. After signing and
short rest, you start descent slowly to Kibo
Hut, for breakfast and rest for approx 1 hour
then walk down to Horombo Hut for dinner and
overnight.
DAY 5:
After breakfast, final descent Via Mandara Hut for a hot lunch arriving the
Kilimanjaro Park Gate {Marangu - gate} between
12.00noon - 13.00hrs. {at times you can arrive
as late as 16.00 hrs. After saying goodbye to
your Guide/Porters you then, transfers to
Arusha.
NOTE: A 6 day climb is often booked for those
wanting to acclimatize, this extra night is at
Horombo Hut on the way up. Extra cost per person
is USD 130.
