Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi
On arrival our Courtesy Bus through the city
transfers you to the Norfolk Hotel. Visit the
Karen Blixen Museum and the Ngong Hills of the
Out of Africa fame. Also feed the Rothschild
giraffe at the Center for Endangered Wildlife,
coming back to the Norfolk for overnight.
Day 2: Nairobi - Aberdare
Early start, driving north through agricultural
plantations to the town of Mweiga for lunch at
the Aberdare Country Club. After lunch you are
ferried by 4WD vehicles up the forest to The Ark
where you spend the evening viewing from the
hotel balconies the numerous wildlife that come
to drink at the salt lick close to this ecolodge.
Dinner and overnight at the Ark.
Day 3: Aberdare - Mt Kenya Safari Club
After breakfast we proceed the few kilometers
north to Mt. Kenya Safari Club, a luxurious
retreat with spectacular views across the
forested slopes to the snow-capped peaks of Mt.
Kenya. Among the activities available within the
grounds of these manicured lawns and ornamental
ponds are - swimming, tennis, golf, bowling,
croquet, trout fishing and game viewing. Lunch,
dinner and overnight at the Club. (Remember that
a tie and jacket for the gentlemen and evening
dress for ladies is necessary for dinner at this
exclusive club).
Mt Kenya Safari Club
Day 4: Mt Kenya Safari Club - Sarova Shaba
Continue northwards after breakfast for lunch at
the Shaba Game Reserve. Afternoon is spent
viewing game within this wildlife sanctuary.
Dinner and overnight at the Sarova Shaba which
is set in a semi-desert oasis in the renowned
"Born Free" country of the late Joy Adamson.
Day 5: Shaba - Samburu
Leave the Shaba in the mid morning for Samburu
National Park. Lunch is taken at the Samburu
Intrepid on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River.
Afternoon game drive to flash out the species
that are unique to this northern wildlife
sanctuary including the antelope giraffe,
Gravys zebra, Somali ostrich and the majestic
Beisa's Onyx, among other animals. Dinner and
overnight at this Luxury Tented Camp.
Day 6: Samburu
Another day is spent driving through the park in
search of the numerous wildlife that is to be
found here. Lunch, dinner and overnight at
Samburu Intrepid.
Samburu Game Reserve has Several species are
considered unique to the region, including its
unique dry-country animal life: All three big
cats, lion, cheetah and leopard, can be found
here, as well as elephants, buffalo and hippos
and Ewaso Ng'iro river contains large numbers of
Nile crocodile. Other mammals frequently seen in
the park include gerenuk, warthogs, Grant's
gazelle, Kirk's dik-dik, impala, waterbuck,
Grevy's zebra, Beisa oryx and reticulated
giraffe,ver 350 species of bird. These include
Somali ostrich, grey-headed kingfisher,
sunbirds, bee-eaters, marabou stork, tawny
eagle, bateleur, vulturine guineafowl,yellow
throated spurfowl, lilac-breasted roller, palm
nut vulture, red-billed hornbill, secretary
bird, Verreaux's eagle, superb starling,
yellow-billed hornbill and vultures
Day 7: Samburu - Marsabit
Traverse this dry desert region to the Marsabit
Game Reserve after breakfast. Arrive at the
Marsabit Lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon game
drives in this land of misty forests and
beautiful crater lakes. Among the wild animals
most likely to be seen are elephants, lions,
leopard, reticulated giraffe and the graceful
greater kudu. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 8: Marsabit - Maralal
Continue through desert country to Maralal Town,
one of the most colourful towns in Kenya with
the Samburu tribesmen resplendent in their red
ochre adding to the beauty. An unforgettable
sight is of the antelopes, zebras and giraffes
mingling with the townspeople going through
their daily chores. Lunch, dinner and overnight
at Maralal Safari Lodge.
Day 9: Maralal - Lake Baringo
After breakfast leave the country of the Samburu
people and proceed southwards to Lake Baringo.
Lunch at Sheraton Baringo then proceed by boat
in the mid afternoon to the Luxury Tented Camp
on Ol Kolwa Island in the lake. Dinner and
overnight at Lake Baringo Club.
Lake Baringo is one of the largest freshwater
lakes in the Great Rift Valley. Lake Baringo is
an ornithologist's paradise, with over 400
different species of birds and the largest
nesting colony of Goliath Herons in East Africa
on Gibraltar island. Apart from the unusual
birds, which include the rare Verreaux's Eagle,
Bristle-Crowned Starting and Hemprich's
Hornbill, the lake has groups of resident Hippos
And Crocodiles. Jonathan Leakey's world famous
Snake Farm is situated just beyond the Village
of Kampi Ya Samaki and is worth a visit.
Day 10: Lake Baringo - Naivasha
Most of the morning is spent bird watching or
boating in Lake Baringo. Over 450 species of
birds have been sighted in Baringo and the
resident ornithologist is an encyclopedia of
knowledge on tropical birds. After lunch we
continue to Lake Naivasha Country Club for
dinner and overnight.
Day 11: Naivasha - Nairobi
Spend the morning relaxing on the grounds of
this small luxurious hotel that was formerly the
farmhouse of a colonial settler, or
alternatively boating in the lake or horse
riding on the grounds or bird watching among the
tropical vegetation. Leave Lake Naivasha after
an early lunch for Nairobi. Evening shopping
precedes dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant,
then transfer to the airport for your flight
back home.
